BMW M9 GT4 CONCEPT 2020

INTRODUCTION

With the introduction of BMW M9 this German car maker could finally offer one true representative on the supercar segment. We could see large number of luxury cars delivered by this car maker, also, they offer a lot of performance oriented models but the story with M9 could be significantly different since it could be a competitor to vehicles like Ferrari 458 or even the Ferrari 488 GTB.

At this point everything is still in the rumor mill and what we could hear is that this new model could be offered as 2016th version. This would nicely fit into the 100th anniversary of BMW and it certainly would be praised and nicely welcomed by large number of fans. Images offered are only renderings of BMW M9 but they surely look impressive and if anything similar comes to the market we are sure that it will make a serious splash.

SPECS

Original rumors suggested that drivetrain of the i8 model will be modified for the M9 and that we will be getting another hybrid but this time with slightly more power. It should offer combination of inline six cylinder engine that is helped out by electric motor. With this setup it could push more than 500 hp and impressive 800 NM of torque thankfully to powerful electric motor and huge amount of torque it can offer from 0 rpm. On the other hand from another source we could hear that this car will not be offered with hybrid powertrain and that it will only offer standard engine but the power has not been announced.

TOP SPEED

If BMW wants to bring competitor to Ferrari 458 it will need to offer more than impressive performances. Acceleration from 0 to 62 mph should be done in about 3 seconds while the top speed should be above 200 mph. With these numbers BMW M9 could satisfy most drivers. One of the things that we really liked on these renderings is the fact that one of the models comes with top down, it is unclear if all models will have this option or more likely there will be a convertible version also.

Design wise the BMW M9 is one truly unique piece of art. Aggressive looks and insane curves that are developed to return best possible aerodynamics and performances is something that we can see on images. Everything is unique, from wheels to front part, from grille to tail lights. Newest technology like LED lights on both ends is something that we can expect to see and even on few of those available images there are no side mirrors that could imply that BMW will use cams instead of standard side mirrors. This is highly unlikely since there are still no regulations that allow this so this might be dropped on production ready version.

REAR VIEW

INTERIOR

Interior is equally impressive and even we have only one image of the interior we can agree that it will closely follow the exterior looks when it comes to uniqueness. It is clean and neat, with only few buttons that will allow you to control most functions, plus, there is a large center console display that will bring all the most important details about engine, navigation, climate control, entertainment and similar. Behind the wheel there is a small but configurable screen which we think that will be changed for a larger unit with similar possibilities.

One of the things that are not shown on the images of BMW M9 interior is the paddle shifters. We are sure that automatic transmission will be offered but it will certainly come with possibility of manual control and most obvious choice is to have it with paddle shifters. Since these are only renderings we are sure that production version will come with few more changes in this department.

BMW M9 PRICE

It is hard to speculate about the price. At this point we still do not know what type of powertrain BMW M9 will bring, total amount of power it will offer and will it be able to compete against supercars from Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Maserati and similar. Truly futuristic and very impressive BMW i8 is priced at $136,500 while the price of Ferrari 458 starts from $239,340, expectations are that price of M9 will be set at about $200,000 or slightly higher.

Interior

The 2020 Ferrari Portofino allows drivers to soak up the sun and have fun chasing the horizon. With a body that looks seductive no matter if the retractable hardtop is up or down, this front-engine four-seater epitomizes the grand-touring ethos. The Portofino is also the least expensive way to get into the Ferrari owner’s club, but admission still costs a small fortune. Whether the twin-turbo V-8 is rocketing it around or emitting operatic sounds, this Italian-built speedster is a joy to drive and hear. We only wish its steering and brake pedal were as rewarding as the rest of its performance attributes. Its cabin is sumptuously crafted and customizable, but a small back seat and trunk diminish its practicality. Still, the 2020 Portofino emphatically honors the house of the Prancing Horse.

It’s luxurious red interior

Exterior

While Ferrari offers a wide range of exterior and interior color options, the 2020 Portofino has few other options. Our ideal version would wear the gorgeous dark green Verde British paint, have the black Nero roof, and don the forged Matt Grigio Corsa wheels with yellow-painted brake calipers. We’d also opt for the exterior carbon-fiber components, black-chromed grille, and black ceramic exhaust pipes to further dress up our Portofino. The interior would feature the available diamond-stitched seats and flaunt the goldish Beige Tradizione color scheme. Our final touches include the carbon interior upgrade, yellow tachometer background, and the upgraded floor mats in the Castoro hue. It costs an exclusive $218,750.

Launch

The Phantom was unveiled by live-stream on 27 July 2020

It made its public debut at a special exhibition Rolls-Royce held in London two days later on 29 July. The event, dubbed “The Great Eight Phantoms”, took place at Bonhams auction house in Mayfair. The exhibition gathered a noteworthy Phantom from each generation, from Fred Astaire’s Phantom I to subsequent models driven by royalty, or made famous by celebrities, including John Lennon’s Romany gypsy wagon-style painted Phantom V.

Design

The Phantom VIII’s styling has been described as an evolution of the Phantom VII’s

Like its predecessor, the Phantom VIII has a short front overhang and upright front end, a long bonnet and set-back passenger compartment as well as a long wheelbase and a flowing rear end. It also uses rear-opening “coach doors”. For the first time on a Phantom, Rolls-Royce’s trademark “Parthenon” radiator grille is integrated into the surrounding bodywork. The Phantom is available in two wheelbase lengths. The Phantom Extended Wheelbase (EWB) is 220 mm (8.7 in) longer than the standard wheelbase.

Specifications

The Phantom uses an aluminium spaceframe chassis; this is a version of Rolls-Royce’s modular “Architecture of Luxury” platform. The Phantom is the first car to be based on this new platform, which will later be used by the Cullinan SUV and other future Rolls-Royce models.

Suspension and steering

The Phantom is fitted with self-levelling air springs and electronically controlled dampers front and rear. It uses a double wishbone front axle and a 5-link rear axle. It is also equipped with active anti-roll bars.

The suspension system is linked to a stereo camera mounted behind the windscreen. This scans the road ahead and preconfigures the spring and damper rates, and the anti-roll bars, so as to improve ride quality. The system, dubbed the “Flagbearer” by Rolls-Royce, operates at speeds of up to 100 km/h (62 mph).

The Phantom is the first Rolls-Royce to be fitted with four-wheel steering. The system turns the rear wheels counter to the front wheels through a maximum of 3° at speeds lower than 60 km/h (37 mph) to improve manoeuvrability. Between 60 and 80 km/h (37 and 50 mph) the rear wheels do not steer at all. At speeds above 80 km/h the rear wheels turn in the same direction as the front wheels through a maximum of 1° to increase high-speed stability.

The Phantom uses “Silent-Seal” tyres which Rolls-Royce co-developed with Continental. These use a layer of foam inside the tyre to reduce tyre cavity noise, lowering sound levels in the cabin by up to 9 decibels.

Interior

The interior is fully bespoke and personalised to the clientele like previous and current Rolls Royce models offer. They also have “The Gallery”, a display section in the vehicle in the front seat veneer with experimentation of different materials and artwork to be integrated with the vehicle and all the options are limitless.

Powertrain

The Phantom is exclusively available with a twin-turbocharged 6.75-litre V12 engine. This is a variant of BMW’s N74 called the N74B68 which is unique to the Phantom. ZF’s8HP 8-speed automatic transmission is the sole gearbox option. This is linked to a GPS receiver which analyses the car’s location and speed to optimize shift timing.

Bugatti Divo 2019

The Bugatti Divo is a mid-engine track-focused sports car developed and manufactured by Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. The car is named after French racing driver Albert Divo, who raced for Bugatti in the 1920s winning the Targa Florio race twice. The Bugatti Divo costs a flashy $5.4 million earning the title for one of the most expensive cars in 2020.

Performance

The car is 8.0 seconds quicker than the Chiron around the Nardò test track according to the manufacturer and generates 456 kg (1,005 lb) of downforce at top speed, 90 kg (198 lb) more than the Chiron. The top speed is, however, reduced to 380 km/h (236 mph), owing to the extra drag produced by the aerodynamic elements and due to excessive pressure on the tyres resulting from a lower ride height. Power output is unchanged from the Chiron, with 1,103 kW (1,500 PS; 1,479 hp) at 6,700 rpm and 1,600 N⋅m (1,180 lb⋅ft) of torque at from 2,000 to 6,000 rpm. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) is also unchanged from the Chiron at 2.4 seconds but the Divo has a higher lateral acceleration (1.6 g vs 1.5 g in the Chiron). The Divo lacks the top speed mode unlocked with a special key as present on the Chiron.
